DID-Based Routing with Asterisk
Windows Messenger

GENERAL INFORMATION
PLEASE NOTE: Because Windows Messenger is not particularly user friendly when it comes to placing and receiving phone calls, we recommend that instead of using Windows Messenger you try X-Lite or SJphone which are also free.

Microsoft Windows Messenger can be used to place and receive calls from any Windows computer running Windows 2000 or XP with a dial-up or broadband internet connection. We recommend that you use a headset in order to achieve good quality calls.

See below for information on where to download Windows Messenger and how to configure it.

For instructions on how to place a call using Windows Messenger click here

INSTALLING AND CONFIGURING Microsoft Windows Messenger

STEP 1

Download and install Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.1. Only specific version of Microsoft Windows Messenger will work with Callcentric. If you are unsure you have the correct version, you may download it from Microsoft here.

After downloading the software you must install it which may require you to re-boot your computer.
STEP 2

If after you have installed the Windows Messenger software it does not automatically open, click on your START menu, click ALL PROGRAMS, and then click Windows Messenger.
STEP 3

You should now see a Windows Messenger on your screen. Click on the link within Windows Messenger: To sign in with a different account, click here.

STEP 4

Check only the SIP Communications Service item and click OK.

STEP 5

Enter your Callcentric number in the Sign-in name field followed by @sip.callcentric.net. For example, if your Callcentric number is 17771234567 you would enter [email protected]

After you have entered your Callcentric number click the OK button.

STEP 6

You will now see a screen that looks like this:

Fill the fields in this screen with the following information:

Sign-in name: field should contain your Callcentric number @sip.callcentric.net - as was entered in step 5. For example: [email protected]

User name: field should contain your Callcentric number. If your Callcentric number is 17771234567 you would enter 17771234567

Password: Enter your SIP Password here. Your SIP password is the same password you create when you sign up for you Callcentric account. Optionally you may change it in your preferences.

You can then check the Save my password box if you do not want to re-enter your password every time you open Windows Messenger.

Once you have filled in all of the fields click the OK button.
STEP 7

You should now be presented with a screen that looks like:

At this point you are logged into the Callcentric service and can begin making calls using Microsoft Windows Messenger.

If you have any problems logging in please verify your internet connection is working and that you entered all the information correctly in steps 3 through 6.

STEP 8

That's it! You can now make a phone call.

You can make a test call to 17771234567, or if you are signed up for one of Callcentric's rate plans you can place a call to a traditional landline or mobile phone by dialing either:
1 + the area code and number for calls to the US
Or
011 + the country code, area code, and number for calls worldwide (you may also use 00 instead of 011).
