DID-Based Routing with Asterisk
D-Link DVG-1402S

GENERAL INFORMATION
D-Link's DVG-1402S is a broadband router with integrated Voice over Internet Protocol support.
Callcentric and our customers have found the D-Link's DVG-1402S to not be a particularly reliable device; and we cannot recommend it.

NOTE: If you purchased your device from another service provider it may be locked and will not work with any provider (including Callcentric) other than the company you purchased it from. It may be possible depending upon your contract to have the device unlocked by the provider; but if you do not have full access rights including all usernames and passwords to the device you will not be able to use the device with Callcentric.

The DVG-1402S product page and manuals can be found here.

CONFIGURING THE DVG-1402S
These instructions are based on DVG-1402S software version S4.0S44; if you are running a different software version some menus and settings may be different. The DVG-1402S can be used with Callcentric when it acts as a router, or when placed behind a broadband router.

We recommend that you read each step through in its entirety before performing the action indicated in the step.

STEP 1

Decide whether you plan to use the DVG-1402S as a router or behind your existing broadband router.

If you will be using the DVG-1402S as a router connect your broadband connection (such as cable modem or DSL modem) to the WAN port on the DVG-1402S. Connect your computer to the LAN ports on the DVG-1402S. For more detailed instructions please refer to the DVG-1402S manual.

If you will be using the DVG-1402S behind your existing broadband router connect the WAN port on the DVG-1402S to your router or LAN.

NOTE: If you plan on setting up the DVG-1402S behind your existing router you will need to first plug a computer into the LAN ports on the DVG-1402S in order to configure it. The DVG-1402S cannot be configured via the web interface from the WAN port.

After connecting the network cables, connect your phone to the DVG-1402S. Finally plug the supplied power cable into the DVG-1402S.
STEP 2

Wait 60 seconds after plugging your DVG-1402S in.
STEP 3

On the computer that is connected to the LAN port of the DVG-1402S - open a web browser on your computer such as Internet Explorer and enter the IP address http://192.168.15.1 (I.E. where you would normally enter www.yahoo.com).

NOTE: The IP address listed is the DEFAULT IP of the DVG-1402S. If you have changed the IP address, or this does not work, you will need to reset your DVG-1402S to factory defaults as explained here.
STEP 4

You should now see a page that looks like the image below. Click the button Login to the web-based management module

STEP 5

Click the Advanced link in the menu on the left side of the page.

STEP 6

You will now be asked for the username and password. The defaults are supplied below:

User name: admin
Password: admin

NOTE: If this username password combination does not work it is because you have either changed the username and password which can be set back to default by resetting the DVG-1402S to factory defaults as explained here; or your DVG-1402S has been locked by the provider you purchased it from and you must contact them to obtain the username and password.

Your DVG-1402S will now re-boot itself. Wait 60 seconds for this process to finish. After the DVG-1402S is finished booting you should hear the phone attached to the DVG-1402S ring for about 1 second, and the "Status" light on the front of the DVG-1402S should be green and stay on.

If after re-boot you do not hear the phone attached to your DVG-1402S ring shortly, and the "Status" light on the front of the DVG-1402S does not turn on and stay green, please wait 2 minutes and then unplug the power, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in. If after another 2 minutes the "Status" light does not come on, please verify that the settings you entered into the DVG-1402S in steps 4 through 21 are correct, and that your internet connection is currently up and running.
STEP 22

That's it! You can now make a phone call.

You can make a test call to 17771234567, or if you are signed up for one of Callcentric's rate plans you can place a call to a traditional landline or mobile phone by dialing either:
1 + the area code and number for calls to the US
Or
011 + the country code, area code, and number for calls worldwide (you may also use 00 instead of 011).
